STORY & PHOTOS
2009's "Bride Wars" tells the story of two best friends, Liv (Kate Hudson) and Emma (Anne Hathaway), who turn into competitors when they realize that only one of them can have their dream wedding at the Plaza. Shenanigans and hijinks ensue, threatening the girls' friendship. Before things get to that point, though, they happily attend the wedding of their friend Amanda, whose reception is held in Salem's Peabody Essex Museum. Salem, MA is probably better known for its notorious witch trials back in 1692, but there are things to do there besides touristy witch things, and the PEM is one of them.
"Bride Wars" filmed in PEM's East India Marine Room, and they have the clip from the movie posted right on their website - you could even watch it on your phone while you're in the room where it was filmed. (Film-ception?) Liv and Emma agree that Amanda's wedding is perfectly lovely, except for two things: "it ain't June... and it ain't the Plaza."
Don't miss pre-superstar Chris Pratt as Emma's boyfriend Fletcher:
In real life, the East India Marine Room at PEM is definitely perfectly lovely. In fact, the whole museum is.
The Peabody Essex Museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 10am-5pm and admission is $20 for adults (or $12 for students with ID). The nearby Essex Street Pedestrian Mall also appeared in the film.
