STORY & PHOTOS
In the fifth-season opener of NBC's emotional roller-coaster of a feel-good family show "Parenthood", Kristina Braverman (Monica Potter) makes the gutsy decision to run for mayor of Berkeley, against her former employer Bobby Little (Jonathan Tucker). She has to file her paperwork in a hurry, and she does it at City Hall -- which is the same City Hall that stands in for Pawnee City Hall on "Parks and Recreation". In real life, it's Pasadena City Hall in Pasadena, CA.
In this episode, Kristina runs into Bobby Little while she's going to file her papers. It creates a little bit of an awkward moment as the soon-to-be-rivals acknowledge the new situation.
"Parenthood" keeps it simple by not showing the entire City Hall facade (it looks like Kristina and Bobby are on the back side), but you can see the inner courtyard (which "Parks and Rec" neglects to show). If I hadn't visited the City Hall in person I probably wouldn't have realized it was the same place. But it's an interesting example of how two different shows can make the same location look pretty different for their specific purposes.
When I met Monica Potter at PaleyFest a couple of years ago she was SO NICE, and I love the character of Kristina Braverman, so I would definitely vote for her in a local election.
