Jessi's Streaming Recommendations
Netflix: Center Stage. Duh. Ballet is basically Jessi’s life.
Hulu: Little Fires Everywhere. As Jessi had a rocky start when she moved to small town Stoneybrook, she’d be hooked by the drama beneath the surface in Shaker Heights.
Disney+: Remember the Titans. Not to be too overt about the Black-family-moving-to-a-white-town thing, but it is a central recurring idea in Jessi’s life in the series. When the Ramseys moved to Stoneybrook, a lot of families’ ingrained and overt racism came out to play, unfortunately. This film would probably strike a chord.
HBO: Josie and the Pussycats. I mean, everyone should be obsessed with this movie. Jessi is a performer, so she’d be into that aspect, but she’d also relate to the ideas of thinking for yourself (remember her battles with Aunt Dictator Cecelia in Jessi’s Baby-sitter?) and the struggles that can occur when mixing friendship and business.
CBS All Access: The Good Wife. Jessi has a pretty strong sense of right and wrong, and she likes to be a helper - so watching TGW would be an exercise in considering the grayer areas of life, and the darker sides of justice and fairness.
Amazon Prime: The Cutting Edge. Figure skating is like the winter cousin of ballet, right? I like to think Jessi would enjoy this movie (which I used to rent on VHS like once a month in the 90s) and yell “toe pick!” with me.
