California Diaries #8: Maggie, Diary Two
Whew, Maggie is spiraling big time.
Her mom is drinking more than ever and even goes AWOL one night, leaving Maggie to take over party-planning duties for an animal shelter benefit.
Her brother is shipped off to a camp he doesn’t want to go to and the whole family forgets he exists despite his desperate pleas for contact and attention.
Her father is disappointed in her when she quits her making-copies-and-getting-coffee job at his studio to work where her real passion lies, at an animal shelter. But then Maggie walks away from that job, too, putting her new boss in a tough spot.
Maggie finally goes on a date with Justin Randall but her self-esteem is so low and her eating issues so intense that she makes a mess of it.
Speaking of her eating issues… Maggie is struggling with disordered eating. She thinks she’s fat even though she’s not, and she is on a super strict diet that eventually turns into eating nothing. Being so strict about what she eats obviously gives Maggie a sense of control in her world, basically the only way she has any control, but it’s super destructive.
