STORY & PHOTOS:
Yes, I tracked down and photographed a storm drain in Statesboro, Georgia. And don't think I didn't get some really weird looks from passerby while doing so. But that's how much I love the coming-of-age movie "Now and Then"! And since I was in Savannah over the weekend, I couldn't resist driving up to Statesboro to track down a few "Now and Then" filming locations.
The storm drain, as you know if you're a fan, plays a fairly important role in "Now and Then". After Samantha (Gaby Hoffman) has confessed to Teeny (Thora Birch) that her parents are divorcing, Teeny gives Samantha a pep talk and a friendship bracelet and promises to always be there for her. Later, while driving in the rain, Sam's bracelet falls into a storm drain.
Sam climbs down to get it but rain water starts to pour in and she's trapped. She and Teeny freak out because basically Sam is drowning.
And who comes along to save the day? Crazy Pete, the guy Sam and her friends are scared of because he's the town eccentric. It's at this point they realize he may not be that crazy or scary after all. Touching stuff, really! Here's how it all looks today:
(P.S. Did you know that "Pretty Little Liars" showrunner I. Marlene King wrote "Now and Then"? Awesome.)
