The Pink Motel is one of those locations that pops up everywhere - I can't count the number of times I've seen it in random movies or TV shows and been like, "oh hey, Pink Motel".
In the first season of "Dexter", the Pink Motel is where the cops track the Ice Truck Killer wannabe and bust him in time to save the woman he's kidnapped.
Incidentally, this same motel shows up in the beginning of the eighth season as well - it's where Dexter tracks down Deb and stabs the bail-skipper she's trying to bring in (but also sleeping with). Maybe the location scouts really liked the location, or maybe it was a wink-and-nod to the first season?
The Pink Motel has fully embraced its screen life and it (and Cadillac Jacks) now markets itself to location scouts and filmmakers; check out this website. You can see why this location is used so frequently for both films and television set back in the day and films and television that just need a quirky or run-down motel.
In "The League", the Pink Motel plays a role in the story of Rafi (Jason Mantzoukas) and Dirty Randy (Seth Rogen) and their escapades in L.A.:
This motel has also been seen on "The O.C.", in the episode "Rainy Day Women" (Sandy and Rebecca have to stay there when the rain washes out the road):
and in the movie "The Whole Ten Yards". In "All Good Things", starring Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst, it pops up in one brief scene:
In another interesting twist, it seems that the little pool at the Pink Motel became a skateboarding hotspot after owner Monty told some skaters they could do whatever they want in the pool. It's now the location of a skateboarding event called the "Pink Motel Pool Party". It is featured in the skateboarding film "The Search for Animal Chin".
