STORY & PHOTOS
2011's biggest comedy was "Bridesmaids", the story of a down-on-her-luck Annie (Kristen Wiig) whose best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) is getting married. Annie just can't seem to do anything right when it comes to planning dress-shopping days or bachelorette parties, and finds herself in constant competition with Lillian's other bridesmaid, Helen (Rose Byrne).
In the beginning of the film Annie and Lillian get coffee & dessert at a café and discuss Annie's dysfunctional booty-call "relationship" with Ted (Jon Hamm).
It looks real, but it's not a real café at all -- it's part of Paramount Studios' backlot in Hollywood. That cafe set has been used in a ton of things. I stepped inside it while there was still blood spatter left from the "Castle" episode "Wild Rover", but it has also appeared in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" and "Cloverfield". This is what it looks like from the outside:
And here's a shot from inside the set looking out the window:
The café set is actually right down the "street" from the storefront of Annie's defunct bakery, Cake Baby:
The cafe exterior is at the end of the block on the left side of the photo, and the Cake Baby storefront would be just out of frame on the right side.
You can visit the whole street and see both facades as part of Paramount's studio tour.
