STORY & PHOTOS
Clifton's Cafeteria in downtown Los Angeles is something of an LA institution, serving food cafeteria-style. There's always a pretty big selection and the food is good and not expensive. The place itself is decked out amusingly, as well, with nature scenes and random kitsch. It's worth checking out if you're in downtown LA, especially because interiors of the quirky restaurant were recently used in the film "Gangster Squad", which is set in 1940s Los Angeles.
You'll immediately recognize the decor and huge staircase from the scene when Jerry (Ryan Gosling) and Grace (Emma Stone) are out for lunch and are approached by a couple of Mickey Cohen's (Sean Penn) goons. It's a cool place for lunch! Check out the character of downtown LA while you're there.
A former Clifton's location was also used in 1999's "Fight Club", standing in for the restaurant where Marla (Helena Bonham Carter) meets the Narrator (Edward Norton) in one scene.
