#86: Mary Anne and Camp BSC

#86: Mary Anne and Camp BSC

This book really only needs bullet-points. (The BSC movie did day camp better.)

  • The BSC holds a circus-themed day camp for their charges during the three weeks between when school ends and their summer camps and rec department activities begin. One of the charges, Alicia Gianelli, has major separation anxiety from her mom, and Mary Anne majorly coddles her and then gets mad at all the other baby-sitters for trying to help Alicia buck up.

  • Richard Spier goes out of town on business and Sharon plans some fun “bach”(elorette) activities for herself, Dawn, and Mary Anne, but Mary Anne acts like a big baby. Like, dude, you get to eat takeout every night and watch good-bad movies and make a mess and stay up late. You’re winning. Stop whining.

  • Mary Anne sprains her ankle pretty badly in a bicycle accident and starts to feel suuuper sorry for herself and miss her dad even more, and she gets inexplicably mad at Sharon and Dawn, who are taking good care of her. (Look, I almost never side with Dawn, so you know this means Mary Anne is being a total pill.)

  • Mary Anne finally realizes she’s being an asshole when even Alicia Gianelli wants to ditch her for the day. Yikes. She apologizes to Sharon and Dawn and pulls the stick out of her butt, and the Camp BSC circus goes off with only a couple of minor hitches. As Mary Anne says, “sometimes the best vacation of all is just learning to loosen up!”
