#100: Kristy's Worst Idea
I vividly remember reading this book and Super Special #11 on hot days by the pool and the silver/gold leafing melting off on my sweaty fingers. Hahahah so glamorous. ANYWAY…
Kristy’s back from Hawaii and ready to reclaim her throne as BSC President. She definitely does not approve of Abby’s haphazard leadership and now she’s getting bent out of shape because people have other commitments and can’t make it to every single BSC meeting. In order to, what? — reestablish her dominance, prove her worth, take your pick — Kristy dreams up this complicated Fall Into Fall Festive Block Party. She’s gung ho, while everyone else is more gung no. Kristy is pissed about that, and about the fact that everyone’s schedules are filling up and she feels like the BSC is becoming everyone’s last priority.
Even Kristy’s slipping — while she’s baby-sitting at the Rodowskys’ house, Jackie falls out of a tree (naturally) and hurts his ankle. She begins to doubt herself and wonder if she needs a break from baby-sitting. Turns out everyone needs a break — from the club and its rules, at least. At the next BSC meeting things come to a head and they all vote to disband the club. THIS FEELS LIKE A DEATH IN THE FAMILY.
Almost all of the baby-sitters feel a sense of relief at the disbanding, as it gives them more time to relax and focus on other things. But they slowly realize, of course, that they miss the club. They stop hanging out as much, their clients are being driven crazy but now having to call individual sitters instead of one number during meeting towns, local ding-dongs like Erica Blumberg and Cokie Mason are getting sitting jobs and flubbing them, and some regular charges like Jamie Newton and Jackie Rodowsky are upset and blaming themselves for the breakup. Jackie rides his bike to Kristy’s house to deliver an apology note and ends up getting into an accident that lands him in the hospital with a concussion.
This brings the BSC members back together and soon they’re reconsidering their disbandment. They decide to do a one-month trial run of getting back together before they decide if they want to permanently re-start the club. Will they or won’t they?! (They obviously will.)
