#112: Kristy and the Sister War

So on the cover, Kristy is using Frank Costanza’s “stop short” move on Shannon, right?

Anyway, Tiffany and Maria Kilbourne are bothered because their parents and sister are too busy for them and they miss spending time with their family members. Their way of expressing this is to pull prank after prank on Shannon and make her life totally miserable. Misguided? Sure. But who among us hasn’t stuffed somebody’s backpack with cooked spaghetti because we love them too much? … Right?

Kristy, who’s got a regular sitting job with the Kilbournes, helps Maria and Tiffany write letters to their family members expressing their concerns and needs… after she lets them get away with, like, fifty annoying pranks. But still. Kristin Amanda Thomas to the rescue once again!

Meanwhile, there is going to be an All-Stoneybrook Dance at the community center (open to all Stoneybrook middle schools, public or private) and the kids of Stoneybrook want one of their own, so the BSC helps them put one together. Some who-likes-who drama ensues, the funniest of which is that Tiffany and Maria are fighting over Jordan Pike until they realize that one actually likes Adam and one actually likes Byron. (#TeamByron, by the way; he’s the sensie.) Both dances end up going well, but there is one more item of interest:

Claudia sets Kristy up with a guy her seventh-grade boyfriend Mark knows, Steve, and Steve is pretty terrible. He and Mark are late for their date without any apology or explanation, Steve claims to like sports but really only likes collecting valuable trading cards, and on the date the boys mostly talk to each other and ignore the girls. Kristy, who went so far as to let Claudia give her a whole-ass makeover for this date, is beyond unimpressed… and not just with Steve, but with Mark. She thinks Claudia can do “much, much better,” because truly no one is good enough for Claudia.

Will Claudia dump Mark?! We can hope…
