Mystery #25: Kristy and the Middle School Vandal
Cary Retlin is back, y’all. There is a lot of stuff brewing at Stoneybrook Middle School: the teachers are in a contract negotiation and are preparing to strike, two kids who were suspended for multiple weeks are back around, and there’s been a string of vandalism. Someone wrote a threatening message on what they thought was the principal’s car, they’ve pulled fire alarms, they’ve flooded bathrooms, and they’ve destroyed scenery and props from the last school play. Whoever it is is leaving “MK” behind in green marker or paint; it seems like the Mischief Knights are back and escalating. It’s weird because the Mischief Knights’ signature color is red, though… hmmm.
In the midst of all this, competitive Kristy and mischievous Cary make a bet about the BSC’s ability to solve mysteries. Cary will set up a “mystery” (which is really more a series of clues) and if the BSC can solve it within six school days, they win. Cary’s clues actually end up being fun, and send the BSC running around the school for a week. Cary’s last clue/task is for the BSC to bring him the culprit of the vandalism — and this is after Kristy has falsely accused Cary of everything and narc-ed him out to the vice principal.
Can the BSC solve this case? Uh, duh. Although in this situation the situation is a little bit ~~really??~~ … Mary Anne realizes that the culprit is probably color blind, since they’ve mixed up the Mischief Knights’ color and vandalized the wrong car. Then everyone else realizes that one of the two previously suspended dudes must be colorblind because of how badly he dresses (LOL) and… well, they’re right, and they find incriminating evidence in his locker. The BSC saves the day once again!
If this was a teen TV show there would be some major sexual tension between Kristy and Cary that would build up to some sort of angsty kiss. But since this is the BSC, they will probably just continue to be rivals and maybe borrow each other’s turtlenecks once in a while.
