#98: Dawn and Too Many Sitters
The plot of this book is basically a combination of what would be two subplots from other books. Shrug emoji.
Dawn and Jeff are back in Stoneybrook for summer break. Jeff reconnects with the Pike triplets, who he now calls JAB (Jordan Adam Byron) and the four of them decide they want to become baby-sitters. The BSC offers them a Baby-sitters-in-Training (BIT) program, in which they help a sitter on her job and get a 25% cut of the pay. Nice deal, except that — despite being well-meaning — they’re often more of a nuisance than a help. And the BSC members aren’t psyched about doing more work for less money, because most of them are trying to save up $250 in a few weeks to put toward a school trip to Hawaii.
Oh, yeah — Stoneybrook Middle School students (and Dawn) can sign up for an all-expenses paid trip to Hawaii for $500. (What?!) All of the members’ parents agree to split the cost with their kids, and everyone except Kristy and Mallory are saving up. Kristy’s family is taking their own Hawaii trip later, and Mallory is Mallory (and is also helping Mrs. Stone run a playgroup). Basically, everyone busts ass all summer and saves up the money required to go. Zzzzzz. Give me Aloha, Baby-sitters already!
On the bright side, this was the least Dawn-y book narrated by Dawn, so… huzzah! Ultimately, this book serves to set up a couple of upcoming books: Stacey and Robert’s relationship troubles (in this one he cancels on her last-minute for a movie date) and the BSC’s trip to Hawaii, both of which are more interesting and exciting than Dawn trying to sell health food to mall shoppers as a fundraiser.
