California Diaries #7: Dawn, Diary Two

California Diaries #7: Dawn, Diary Two

Dawn and Sunny are still in their fight and Dawn is torn up about it. She wants to make up with Sunny, but she’s still bothered by Sunny’s behavior — not visiting her mom in the hospital, hanging out with older guys, cutting classes and blowing things off, using Ducky and taking advantage of his kindness, etc. It goes so far that Sunny barely acknowledges that Dawn’s little sister — Elizabeth Grace, alias: Gracie — has been born, other than stopping by with flowers for Carol a couple of days later.

Half of this book is just setting up for Maggie’s next diary about her disordered eating. Maggie, who is a perfectionist about everything, has started calling herself fat all the time and barely eating — or going to the bathroom right after a meal — and Dawn and Amalia are quite troubled, but don’t bring it up to Maggie after their first few “you’re not fat, you’re perfect” comments fall on deaf ears.

Meanwhile, Dawn is packing up to peace out to Stoneybrook for the summer, like, a week after Gracie is born. Whoops. At least, for Dawn’s sake, she’s off the the land of thirteen-year-olds-who-actually-act-thirteen and away from some of the ~darkness~ of her California adventures. Literally, the next BSC book has “Playground” in the title, so… there ya go.
