California Diaries #6: Sunny, Diary Two
God, Sunny is such an asshole. I know she’s a troubled thirteen-year-old and that I’m looking back on this from an ~advanced~ age, but… jeez. Do you know how selfish and annoying you have to be to make DAWN seem relatable?!
In this book, Sunny:
Continues to not visit her mother but then gets pissed when Dawn visits her mother
Cuts school all the time and then gets mad at her teachers for giving her failing grades
Gets mad at her dad for working all the time without thinking about the fact that he has to pay her mother’s probably-exorbitant hospital bills on top of their normal expenses
Loves people when they’re complimenting, benefitting, or distracting her but gets annoyed and wants to ditch as soon as they call her on her shit in the slightest
Keeps trying to date high school juniors (as a thirteen-year-old)
Almost kills Carol’s baby
I don’t know what else to say except GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER, SUNSHINE DAYDREAM WINSLOW. You are not living up to your name.
Side note: despite what the cover implies, there are no beat poets in this novel.
