BSC TV #13: The Baby-sitters Remember
It’s another Baby-sitters Remember! But it’s not the same stories as the series (which actually came first, chronologically). The TV episode recounts some plot lines from the first 52 books in the series.
In the final episode of the 1990 Baby-sitters Club TV series, it’s the last day of school. The members of the BSC are cleaning out their lockers and ooh-ing and ahh-ing over some of the memories inside. Mary Anne and Logan even sneak in some heavy petting.
To celebrate, the BSC has a slumber party, where they start reminiscing about old times and special memories.
Kristy (who absolutely hates talking about herself… cough) rehashes the day she came up with the idea for the Baby-sitters Club:
Also, has anyone else realized that Kristy’s mom is played by Ann Dowd?!
Yes, the Ann Dowd who won an Emmy for “The Handmaid’s Tale.” WUT
Next they reminisce about their first-ever meeting, and waiting for their first client to call:
I mean, I would call Stacey and Claudia even if I didn’t need a baby-sitter. And, I mean, not everyone who called the BSC had children… remember when Kristy showed up to baby-sit for Buffy and Pinky?
Stacey reminds everyone of the time that she, a genius, used reversed psychology on Max and Amanda Delaney:
Those little brats were no match for Queen Stacey!
Claudia talks about how much she misses Mimi: “she always made me feel so good about myself.”
The girls all fondly remember a traditional Japanese tea that Mimi hosted for them:
There are some questionable music cues and comments (Jessi says the rice and bean sweet cake “sounds Mexican” and Mimi says “no nacho chips in Japan”) but it’s overall a sweet scene, even though Dawn predictably puts her vegan foot in her mouth by saying the tea tastes “interesting.”
Then, of course, there’s the “practice wedding” ceremony from before Elizabeth and Watson’s wedding, in which Karen and David Michael “got married”:
They are not too psyched about the kissing part. Fair enough. Speaking of not psyched, Dawn’s flashback is of the marriage-and-baby project the middle-schoolers had to do, and her partner is just about as happy to be with her as I’d be. (Not very.)
Meanwhile, the sexual tension between Kristy and Alan Gray threatens to boil over…
… and Logan remains overprotective and possessive, even when it comes to a fake egg baby.
The episode ends with the girls having a heartwarming (sappy) discussion about how their biggest accomplishment is staying so close and always being there for each other. They make a pact that, once they leave Stoneybrook, they’ll have a reunion every year, no matter where they are.
I will be PISSED if I don’t get invited!
