STORY & PHOTOS
In episode 517 of "Modern Family", Mitch and Cam take Manny and Alex to the museum for a day of culture. Of course, Cam has a dramatic crisis when the exhibit about which he rehearsed "smart things" to say is not actually the featured exhibit and he feels mentally inferior to the rest of his crew.
The museum they go to is the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The show is set in LA, so it makes sense! They show the museum banner at the beginning of the scene:
and then you can see the very recognizable lamppost installation in the background as the brainy foursome makes their way into the museum:
(This lamppost installation was also the backdrop for a memorable date night fight scene in "No Strings Attached", starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman.)
This installation is very cool to see in person as well.
LACMA is a fun place to visit if you're in the LA area. The museum is open every day except Wednesdays, and admission runs $10-15 depending on certain factors (you get a discount with a student ID). General admission is free on the second Tuesday of each month, or after 3pm daily for LA County residents.
