Though Showtime's gruesomely delightful hit "Dexter" is set in Miami, most of the filming takes place in and around Long Beach, CA.
Production uses several houses in the Los Altos neighborhood for the homes of the show's characters. San Anseline Avenue is where you can find Rita's house (2348):
You can tell they've added the peachy-colored decor to make the house seem more "Miami". It's definitely not there in real life:
Next door (at 2354) is the house of the neighbor with the noisy dog from the first season.
Nearby, at 2431 Chatwin Avenue, is the house where Dexter grew up with sister Deb and dad Harry.
Next door at 2421 Chatwin Avenue is Angel's former home from season one; Angel gets drunk and Dexter tries to drop him off there.
At 5570 E. Rolanda Street is the house that Dexter inherits from his biological father in season one.
Right across the street at 5561 is the house where the old lady neighbor lived:
