STORY & PHOTOS
In episode 107 of the "90210" reboot, Silver (Jessica Stroup) decides to throw herself a half-birthday party at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Sounds a bit creepy, no? But it's actually pretty cool -- in Hollywood, they really do show movies at the cemetery. It's called Cinespia, when people buy tickets for the screenings and bring blankets or low-backed chairs, picnic dinners, and wine or beer and hang out under the stars to watch a classic on a big screen. There's even a DJ who spins before and after the screening.
The screenings take place on Hollywood Forever's Fairbanks Lawn, and in real life in looks pretty much the same as what you saw on the show. You can check out a photo archive of real-life Cinespia events on the official website.
Hollywood Forever has quite a storied history apart from being a filming location, as plenty of famous folks are buried there: Marion Davies, Lana Clarkson, Mel Blanc, Carl Switzer, Fay Wray, Estelle Getty, Jayne Mansfield, Rudy Valentino, Douglas Fairbanks, and Dee Dee and Johnny Ramone. If you wander around the cemetery grounds, you'll even come across the Johnny Ramone memorial that Silver and Dixon posed with in the episode:
You can snap a photo with it yourself, like I did:
If you swing by the office when you arrive, you can pick up a map of the grounds, which will tell you where notable public figures were laid to rest.
