If you haven't yet watched HBO's "Veep", you're really missing out. Julia Louis-Dreyfus stars as Selina Meyer, the Vice President of the United States, and is surrounded by an outstanding supporting cast. "Veep" takes a hilarious look at Washington and the White House with a warts-and-all approach. It's like "Arrested Development" meets "The West Wing".
"Veep" was honored at PaleyFest this year, and I was excited to be in the audience. In attendance were creator Armando Ianucci, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tony Hale, Matt Walsh, Reid Scott, Tim Simons, Sufe Bradshaw, Kevin Dunn, and Gary Cole. (Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Tony Hale and that Buster Bluth from "Arrested Development" is my favorite character ever, so I was pretty much freaking out just about the fact that Tony Hale was there.)
The cast was hilarious (of course) and super nice, as well. They signed autographs and took photos and were extremely accommodating. I asked fellow Mainer Tim Simons, who plays the funny-as-hell Jonah, for a photo and he literally hopped offstage to take a photo with me. (He is extremely tall, but my arms stretched just enough to get us both in the photo!) Love him.
I also posed with Reid Scott, who couldn't have been nicer. I look crazy but I don't care because IT'S DAN.
And then, to put the cherry on the ice cream sundae of my life, I asked Tony Hale if I could snap a photo with him and he was like "sure!" and grabbed the camera and took the photo himself.
I love how his head is poking into the frame; it's such a Buster thing to do and therefore it's perfect. I couldn't help but ramble that Buster is my favorite character ever and that I cried when Tony won his Emmy for "Veep" (true story, ask Alex) and he didn't file for a restraining order. What a great man. (He was also incredibly nice when I interviewed him a few years ago.)
Julia is gorgeous and sweet, of course. She is definitely one of my comedy (and life) idols. She is iconic.
