STORY & PHOTOS
If you want to be like Rory Gilmore, your first step might be enrolling at Chilton, the super fancy school Rory attended before heading off to Yale. Unfortunately, that school is not real... but the location that stood in for Chilton on the show is a real and very visitable place!
In reality, "Chilton" is Greystone Mansion, a gorgeous park and private building in Beverly Hills. With lush gardens and a beautiful view of the city, Greystone is a perfect place to snap some photos, eat a little picnic lunch, or bring a good book - or a date. It's open to the public until around 5pm each day and has free parking.
The mansion has also been seen in movies like "Ghostbusters", "The Big Lebowski", "Batman and Robin", "Indecent Proposal", "The Holiday", "X-Men", and "Death Becomes Her".
On at least one occasion (seen in the screencaps above), producers needed to recreate Chilton on the Warner Brothers backlot, so they used a regal-looking facade with iron-y gates:
This is the same location you may have seen as Radley Sanitorium on "Pretty Little Liars" and as the morgue on "Pushing Daisies". For "Gilmore Girls", they added some greenery and some Chilton signs on the gates to make it look like a fancy private school.
